” Claire House will be there for the Campbell family throughout their journey, however long that may be.”
Luke. A little super hero. He’s not quite sure which one, sometimes Spider Man, other times Superman, but when Luke is with the staff from Claire House, he leads every step of the way.
Luke Campbell is five years old and has a complex heart condition. Every single day, he lives on borrowed time.
To look at Luke as he bounds around Claire House, with the nurses trying to keep up with him, you would think he was like any normal little boy. However, when Luke lifts his jumper, you can see the scar that runs right down his chest, telling you he has endured countless painful operations to his little heart. To Luke however, he proudly shows off his scar and tells everyone, this is where the shark “got him” before his daddy saved him from the water.
For Luke and his family, Claire House means different things. For Luke, he gets our Care Team’s undivided attention, playing in the garden with a football, being read a story when he’s having a bad day and out of puff or having fun in the Art Room. For his parents, they can have a break from the 24/7 routine of caring for Luke, a chance to spend more time with his two sisters, or just time for themselves. Claire House is also always on the end of the phone if they have questions, are concerned for their son’s health, or for when the very worst happens.
Claire House Children’s Hospice will be there for the Campbell family throughout their journey, however long that may be. With your help, we can make sure that journey is full of happy memories and treasured moments.
