Secrets, Suspicion and Surprises: Claire House Plays The Traitors
Are you Team Faithful or Traitor?
Claire House has created its own playful take on the hit reality show The Traitors, which has its nail-biting season finale tonight (Friday, January 23).
Siblings, young adults, parents and staff have all taken part in our hospice's own spin on the popular BBC contest.
Our live action version of the game includes gripping round table discussions, scavenger hunts for shields, and age-appropriate activities.
Organiser Alex Wheeler, Therapeutic Support Worker at Claire House, said the events are centred around fun and teamwork and bring moments of joy and distraction to the siblings of seriously and terminally ill children cared for by Claire House.
The themed nights have also been tailored for some of the young adults who are supported by the hospice, as well as Claire House parents and staff.
"The Traitors events are perfect for bringing people together, whether they're meeting for the first time or reconnecting,” said Alex.
“The game encourages interaction and helps people get to know each other. With a mix of physical and mental challenges, it's great to see everyone's competitive side come out!”
Set in Claire House Liverpool in West Derby, the former monastery is a close second to the actual Traitor's Castle in Scotland, with secret rooms, church style archways, the chapel, and Traitor's quarters.
As with the television show, the contest involves prize-pot building challenges as the Faithfuls use clever gameplay to solve puzzles and uncover the Traitors. And there’s even a few Claudias!
However, in a twist, no Faithful is excluded, with those eliminated becoming guardians of the game, gaining an extra role in helping to spot the Traitors and earning double votes at the round table.
So far, the charity has hosted several Traitors-themed events since 2024, including two for siblings and two for parents, with a second staff event planned for next month.
Alex said: “Yes, there can be suspicion and confusion, but it also builds a family atmosphere, where you form allegiances and work together to take down the Traitors. People come together, respect each other’s roles, and enjoy switching off from everyday pressures.
“By offering a playful escape from home-life stresses, our Traitors events support wellbeing, strengthen our community and show joy and connection matter as much as care."
