Georgia's family and friends complete fundraiser in her memory
Family and friends of a ‘beautiful and loving’ young woman who was supported by Claire House have completed their latest challenge in her memory.
The group laced up their walking boots and running shoes in memory of their much‑loved daughter and best friend, Georgia Goodier – walking or running two miles every day throughout February.
Leading the challenge was Chloe Green, captain of Warrington Town Women FC, who first took on the daily miles alongside Georgia back in 2021. Just months later, Georgia was diagnosed with cancer and heartbreakingly died aged 23 in October that same year.
Each February since, Chloe and those closest to Georgia, including her mum Cheryl and dad Danny, have come together to honour her life and raise vital funds for charity.
For the fifth-year running, high school teacher Chloe, 28, completed four miles a day – two for herself and two for best pal Georgia.
“Georgia was beautiful, lovely, energetic and caring,” she says. “She was just a really nice human being.
“We met at high school and were friends ever since. We loved a good cuppa, going to each other’s houses for a brew, and she was sporty – she loved the gym.
"We enjoyed nights out in Warrington and Liverpool and went on girls' holidays like to Malia when we turned 18 and on city breaks together.
"Before Georgia was diagnosed, we decided to walk two miles every day in February to beat boredom during Covid. Now, it’s something we do for her."
Georgia, a former Penketh High School student, was sadly diagnosed with stage four adenocarcinoma, a cancer which starts in the glands that line the organs.
Since her death, Georgia’s family have fundraised for charities including Claire’s House, which cared for Georgia at her home in Warrington and offered bereavement support. Last month, family and friends walked or ran an incredible 560 miles, raising more than £1,800 for Claire House in Georgia’s memory.
Chloe, who now lives in St Helens, says: "Georgia was a loving and caring young woman who was taken from us far too soon. So, in her memory, we put on our walking boots and running shoes every year.
"This year, all proceeds of the run go to the Claire House who were wonderful and looked after Georgia so well at home in Warrington.
"To everyone who has sponsored us so far, it really means a lot to everyone. Georgia is much loved and will always be remembered."
From everyone at Claire House, thanks to Georgia’s family for your incredible support. And thanks to Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West for boosting the total with an additional contribution ❤️
