Here at Claire House, our Clinical Therapies Team is made up of Physiotherapists and a Therapy Assistant. The team offer physiotherapy for children and young adults across both the Wirral and Liverpool sites, and where necessary, in the community.

Physiotherapy support at Claire House can include:

The team liaise closely with community teams to ensure continuity of care for the children and young adults. They can also attend clinics and appointments with other medical professionals to support families where appropriate. They offer support for families via telephone or email regarding any therapeutic interventions that Claire House can assist with.

The Clinical Therapies Team work collaboratively with other teams from across the hospice, including our play specialists, complementary therapists, young adult and rapid response teams to provide a holistic approach to care in a supportive and appropriate environment for the children and young people who access our service.

Luca's mum, Vicky, said:

"Luca would never have been able to go swimming if it wasn’t at Claire House. Public swimming pools are just too cold for him and his body would have to work too hard to warm back up again."

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy here at Claire House is carried out by an appropriately trained Physiotherapist/Therapy Assistant. It is a therapeutic treatment which utilises the properties of water to maximise comfort and function. The Physiotherapist/Therapy Assistant deliver the session in the pool on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis. Parents/carers are not required to get into the pool for this therapy led service however it does require an adult to be poolside at all times.

Family Splash

We understand how difficult it can be for families to access public swimming pools and enjoy precious time together. For this reason, we open our hydrotherapy pool which is fully hoist accessible to those who wish to come in and have family swims. Under this service, children and young people can access the pool with their families/carers. On the first session you will be shown how to use any equipment you may need and given a run through of the housekeeping. After this we will leave you to enjoy the session. The only requirement is that an adult is poolside at all times.

Exercise Group

We deliver a weekly exercise group for children and young adults who are staying in-house for respite at the hospice. The exercise group provides dedicated time for children and young people to complete their own physio programme and practice stretches in a fun environment.

Baby Group

Our Physiotherapists attend our baby group. Baby Group is a relaxed stay and play which runs fortnightly for parents and babies up to 18 months. Baby group aims to provide a supportive and safe environment for parents to come together as well as providing a gentle introduction to Claire House services. Our therapists are on hand at each group to be able to offer practical support to parents.
