Izzy was a happy, healthy young woman, excited to spend her summer working at Camp America following her first year at university. But just before her trip, she began experiencing pain and swelling in her jaw.
Once in the US, the pain worsened. Scans revealed a tumour, and further tests showed stage 4 cancer in her kidney, liver, adrenal glands, spine and pelvis. It was incurable.
Izzy spent her final Christmas making precious memories with her family. In her last weeks, she wanted to be at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Thanks to Claire House, Izzy received palliative care at home, in her own bed, with her family by her side. “We couldn’t have had that without Claire House,” says her mum, Amanda.

And when the time came, Claire House made it possible for us to be together when Izzy died. We couldn’t have had that without them and the end of life care they provided.”

“Izzy was only 19, still on the cusp of adulthood,” shares Izzy’s mum Amanda.
“As a parent, you want to make sure your children are happy and healthy,” says Amanda. “And when you have a cancer diagnosis, all the parenting skills you've built up over the years go out the window because you're no longer in control.
“And to have Claire House who could explain what we needed, and support and guide us was not just important to Isabel but important to us as a family.”
