This is a planned short break for your child at the hospice. A number of nights of respite to be taken across 12 months, will be allocated to each child depending on their individual needs. Planned breaks enable families to spend time together at home or at the hospice giving parents an essential break from having the responsibility of managing and providing all their child’s medical and care needs and from being on constant call. It can help parents have time to be just mum and dad again knowing their children will be well looked after. Parents and siblings can stay in the family accommodation if they wish during these planned breaks.

During their stay each child will have one to one care and access to the range of activities and professionals to enable them to have a fun filled stay. This can include a swim in the pool, music therapy, fun in our arts and crafts or immersive therapy rooms, or a trip out to for e.g. the zoo or the potting shed.

Dedicated weekends for young people are planned throughout the year to enable groups of young people to stay at the hospice together and enjoy age appropriate activities and trips out, which could be a trip to the pub for the 18 and over age group.

Planned respite at Claire House is complementary to all other services provided by other agencies.
